KING APPAREL DROP 2 SS12 – THE CAPS

18 May

The King Apparel Spring/summer 2012 drop 2 line up sees the release of 7 new pieces – 4 Starter snapbacks and 3 new fitted’s from New Era. Once again King have managed to maintain their unique edge as they are the only Starter caps by a European brand that are still produced in the original Starter factory, they have retained their low profile shape and do not come with any bill stickers or holograms to preserve their authentic feel. Snapbacks are made up of the two Insignia styles in grey heather and navy blue with contrast red snap adjusters giving these a unique edge.

The K-team features a white Letterman K logo on black base, with skyway Tuff2 BMX wheel embroideries on the side. Lastly the Teal and grey Signature show just what can be done when you take a simple design and apply it to the freshest colour combos. New Era are represented with the grey and burgundy Signature – at the time of writing this cap is selling out across the board, with limited stock left – and the two Defy styles, with paint drip prints on the bill and large KING embroideries under the bill. Whether you’re a fitted fan or a snapback aficionado they’ve got it covered!

The collection is available online at king-apparel.com and is also available now at over 100 stockists throughout both the UK, Europe and the US.

Stussy x Herschel Capsule Collection Spring 12

17 May

stussy x herschel settlement backpack olive

Giants of the streetwear industry, Stussy have recently collaborated with Canadian bag specialists Herschel Supply Co to bring us this capsule collection for spring 2012. I have a lot of love for both of these companies so I was very excited to see what they had in store for us!

The collection is comprised of 2 different styles of bag; a backpack available in black and olive, and 2 different duffle bags, one in olive and one in olive/black. The range is certainly understated upon first glance, with the exterior being constructed from a chromatic nlyon cordura. The inside however is decidedly more lively, with each piece featuring Stussy’s ‘Wild Hawaii’ all over print. The quality of these bags is excellent just as you’d expect from Herschel. It’s great to see some colourways that are a bit more subtle than some of the company’s other offerings and I’m sure these will go down very well indeed. These are all available now from Urban Industry, numbers are limited though so don’t sleep if you want one!

Word On the Street

16 May

This week we have got some exciting events starting off with the Best of British Pop Up Shop going down on Sunday 20th May from 11am till 7:30 pm at 134 Shoreditch High Street London, Greater London E1 6JE.

In the vein of the Golden Jubilee this event is very appropriate and we should all be there to chill out, enjoy some music and of course support the brands. Oh yeah… its free too! Click here for more info.

Next up we have DECONSTRUCTION taking place at the Upfest gallery in Bristol. Upfest is bringing us a new body of work from Infamous Last Words members EPOK and SMUG. We saw SMUG’s incredible photo-realistic work from the Alter-ego exhibit, which is now being used by Rapper Xzibit as his twitter picture. These guys are two of the best artists in their field, if you’ve not heard of them, a) where have you been? b) check the facebook page out.

Next up…. Shea & Ziegler announced Herakut’s long anticipated return to London this May with a solo show and book launch to celebrate the release of their new art book, After the Laughter. The exhibition will open in the intimate white wall gallery space, 99 Mount Street in Mayfair. Opening reception is on Thursday 31st May 2012. Check out the website for more details. For online preview request please contact: info@shea-ziegler.com
The last but definitely the biggest of all our news this week is the RIVINGTON STREET FESTIVAL. It will be launching this year on June 4th Bank Holiday Monday, delivering an all encompassing family friendly music and art event in the epicentre of London’s creative scene. The Festival will consist of an open air, real-time art exhibition, two outside stages providing an eclectic backdrop of live music, DJs and spoken word, a market area of local designers and twelve venues, each housing individual music and art focused scheduling.
Being located between two road closures, Rivington Street festival will have a ‘real’ street party and multi-attraction atmosphere. MUSIC CURATORS: Wolf Club, Shaka Zulu, Macbeth DJs, Batty Bass (Hannah Holland), Supa Dupa Fly, Boglewaltz, NTS, Living Proof, Yeti in The Basement.

Those of us that missed Streetfest earlier this month should not miss this. Check out the RIVINGTON STREET FESTIVAL facebook page, let’s head down there and make it happen!

New Banksy Piece in Turnpike Lane, London

14 May

Placed right next to a Poundland, Banksy uses his signature stencil to depict a child labourer getting the bunting ready for the Queen’s Jubilee. This is another meaningful piece by the maestro as be highlights child abuse in the UK.

Let us know what you think

AnyForty x T-World – The Australian Invasion Series

14 May

Tonight AnyForty dropped their hugely anticipated series of tees in collaboration with T-World. 4 months in the making, the release features artwork from 10 of Australia’s hottest artists and illustrators. Accompanying each tee is a collectable 24 page artist specific pocket version of T-World – A really nice touch!

With a design each to their name, the artists involved in the series include; Beastman, Ben Bigeni, Dale Bigeni, Ben Brown, Deb, Meggs, Numskull, Purdi Petunia, Travis Price and Ken Taylor.

It’s refreshing to see such an extensive artist series with a real focus on the quality and the artists themselves, which shows through the inclusion of the pocket magazine and the interviews with each artist which can be found on the AnyForty blog. My personal favourites are the Numskull and Deb tees, they’re all pretty sick though! All in all, a top quality drop from one of my favourite UK streetwear brands.

The whole range is now available to buy exclusively at the AnyForty website.

Alter Ego Art Exhibition 2012

13 May

We told you about this event earlier and Street Level definitely had to make it for the opening. I wish there were more words to describe this event because dope, awesome, sick, tremendous just don’t do it justice. The exhibition was curated by one of the artists, Klingatron who did a very splendid job with the execution. You do not have to be an art connoisseur to enjoy yourself, as long as you can appreciate good art and cool comic book superheroes you are good to go.

According to Klingatron, the idea of the show was to explore the idea of having a second identity, bringing together a variety of styles, with each artist studying the theme of a second personality through a mutual influence of popular culture comic books (monkeysvsrobots.tumblr.com)

The timing of this show also couldn’t be any better especially with all the hype surrounding possibly the best movie of 2012, ‘Avengers Assemble’ and not to mention the most recent episode of BBC show ‘The Apprentice’ conveniently being based on street art.

A picture is worth a thousand words (excuse the cliche but it’s true ) so we are giving you loads of them. Check out the pictures, check out the Alter-ego Exhibit facebook page and website and then make your way to the Redbull studios and experience this first hand.

Above we have a piece by the magnificent Klingatron. Great guy, Great host and Great artist. It is an original stencil piece called ‘Always Angry’

Above we have a photorealistic piece by the superhuman SMUG. Who uses spray paint on canvas to capture popular hip artist Xzibit and Wolverine in a piece he calls ‘Weapon X to the Z’

We have a beautiful Original Water colour painting of ‘Thor’ by the skilful technician that is Guy McKinley

Robert Ball is the gifted illustrator that provided the show with this limited edition Giclee Print of  ’Captain America’

WJC also gave us a limited edition Giclee Print of unsung heroine ‘Spider Woman.’ This style gave us that original refreshing comic-strip style.

Above is a very vibrant mixed media on wood piece by Waste called ‘Juggernaut.’

The final piece we have is an ink drawing on paper by the hilarious Cottonmouth (RichT). He also treated us to his new fanzine ‘No one likes Cyclops’ (below)

Overall, it was an awesome night and I highly recommend it. This show had a Good vibe, Good people, Good (free) Bar, Good music, Good hosts, (very) Good prices and most importantly Good Art. The exhibition runs till Wednesday 16th of May so don’t think about it just go!!!

Whyme London SS12 Launch

13 May

Whyme London announced their SS12 launch on twitter last night and being huge fans of this UK brand we had to share this information. This range cleverly incorporates both the latest trends and Whyme’s own unique styling and this ideally, is what makes up a good range of clothing. Visit their online store and get them shirts!

This summer Whyme London make their first move into cut and sew pocket t shirts using camo and floral patterned material influenced by this seasons trends.

Whyme London’s signature print returns this summer onto a camouflage style tshirt.

Individually hand made tye dye tshirts. Each shirt is uniquely different which features a whyme graffiti throw up on the upper back of the t shirt with woven neck label and bottom right branding.

The t-shirt features a screen printed black sprayed tag logo available in white and also a white print onto black sweatshirts. Both garments feature a woven neck label and woven detail on the bottom left of both garments.

Tshirts below feature a white print across the chest of the brands logo with understatement, lifes a question.

10 Deep Spring 2012

11 May

10 deep vintage slicker jacket pacific camo detail

Today we saw the latest spring offering from streetwear giant 10 Deep land on UK shores. Or at least we think it did – This drop is so heavily camouflaged you could easily miss it! Terrible jokes aside this is a solid release from the NYC brand, if you’re a fan of camo then you are in for a treat. If you’re not, well, you might still find something of interest.

Featuring a decent array of outerwear, a hoody, several tees, a couple of shirts, snapbacks, a bag and the odd accessory, this release has all bases covered. The ‘Oak’ camo pattern which features on a nicely detailed anorak and pocket tee is one of my favourites from the drop. Don’t worry though non-camo fans, there’s more than a few items which may please you yet. There’s the very bright looking ’10 nations’ button down shirt which I really like, as well as a more toned down plaid shirt. Two new snapbacks also make an appearance and are available in red and blue, featuring the slogan ‘Larger Living’ which I’m sure will go down well. Also making a non camouflaged appearance is the ‘saints dugout jacket’ in navy with a yellow lining,

As far as the tees go there’s the ‘skull ‘n’ bones’ tee featuring (you guessed it) a small skull and cross bones graphic on the front and 10 Deep branding on the back. Then there’s two striped pocket tees in grey/navy and yellow/navy colourways and a final tee in white and heather grey featuring yet another skull, with a splash of camoflauge thrown in for good measure!

Complimenting the camo theme is the ‘dvsn daypack’ rucksack featuring the pacific camo in tan, and a matching ruger wallet, both of which I’m quite fond of. All now available from Urban Indsutry while stocks last.

11 May

UK brand Amari Clothing was founded in 2007 and launched their online store earlier on this year. Between 2007-2012 the owner, Amari has been figuring out the best way to break into as well as make his mark on the UK streetwear scene. Well, Amari Clothing is definitely here now and looking good.

Amari feels he has the style and imagination to bring something fresh to the fashion scene and I happen to agree with him. Check out the pictures we got for you and visit the Amari Clothing website and facebook page.

EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW – These two tees (below) are set for release next month. The graphic with the heart is a design for a cover that Amari originally created for UK rapper, Napolian. The tee is called Native Hearts and will be released alongisde some new sweatshirts, t shirts, and snapbacks. We will keep you updated!

Indcsn – Spring 2012 Part 1

10 May

INDCSN DUCK COTTON 5 PANEL RANCH

UK based streetwear brand Indcsn have just released part 1 their spring drop for this year. A very strong collection comprising of 5 panels, snapbacks, t shirts and coach jacket. As we’ve come to expect from the brand, all pieces are of excellent quality and craftsmanship. For me, the headwear is what really stands out though, especially the floral 5 panels.

Expect to see part 2 shortly which will include more cut and sew pieces. In the mean time head on over to Urban Industry if you want to cop any of this because I don’t think it will stick around long!
